The public libraries of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are divided among 29 geographic regions called districts. The Montgomery County Library District is comprised of the 20 libraries – 35 physical locations, bookmobiles and outreach services. 16 of those libraries make up the Montgomery County Library & Information Network Consortium (MCLINC).

District Consultant

Every District Library Center is required to hire a District Consultant Librarian. That librarian helps provide supplementary library services to all local libraries within the district, coordinate the services of all local libraries, and act as a liaison to the Office of Commonwealth Libraries. The District Consultant acts as a liaison between Commonwealth Libraries in Harrisburg and the district libraries. The Consultant assists with filing required state reports, collection development, grant writing, library director searches, staff and board concerns, etc. To assist meeting the continuing education standards, the Consultant arranges for and conducts workshops for library staff and trustees. The Consultant also acts as a library advocate before local, state, and federal representatives. Periodic field visits to each district library are also an integral part of the District Consultant’s responsibilities.

District Administrator

The Executive Director of the Montgomery County – Norristown Public Library (MC-NPL) is also the District Administrator for the Montgomery County Library District. This position oversees the operations of the District Library Center in Norristown, it’s branches, and the District Consultants listed above.
